NEW STRIP MALL COMING TO SPRINGDALE!

The Ardmore-Springdale Civic Association (ASCA) represents all residents in Springdale, Maryland. We encourage all residents in the Springdale area to join the organization and to support community initiatives and advocacy. ASCA's low annual dues are used to support  the activities of the association such as newsletters and community projects. In April 2009, ASCA formed the Bellehaven Action Plan Committee to address the Bellehaven Estates, Parcel H proposed shopping plaza to be developed at the intersection of Ardwick-Ardmore Road and St. Joseph’s Drive, which will sit directly across from Charles Herbert Flowers High School.

The ASCA congratulates all those who participated in this development process and made their voices heard. Now is the opportunity to become involved to a greater extent to ensure that what comes meets the community's requirements and upholds the value of this well respected neighborhood.

The former developer of the project, Bethesda-based OC Bellehaven LLC, is no longer attached to the project. Klein Enterprises, LLC is now the new owner/developer of the Bellehaven Plaza Project. You may have noticed their sign, Metropolitan Management Company, an affiliate of Klein Enterprises, who is based out in Baltimore, Maryland and is advertising for tenants for a future development (the proposed Bellehaven Plaza) at the corner of Ardwick-Ardmore Road and St. Joseph's Drive, adjacent to the new St. Joseph’s Fire/EMS Station.

Klein Enterprises, LLC acquired the property from K. Hovnanian Homes in November of 2009. The company acquires and develops retail centers throughout Maryland, and has ownership in close to 2,000,000 square feet in almost 20 communities around the state.

This is their first project in Prince George's County.

They are familiar with the background and history of the project and are willing to work with the community.

Klein Enterprises has submitted their new schematic building designs of the project to ASCA and would like for ASCA and the community to make a selection of the design as well as the type of stores/businesses the community would like to see and choose a name for the plaza.

THIS IS WHERE WE NEED YOUR INPUT ON MONDAY, JULY 12, 2010!

On Monday, July 12, 2010
at the ASCA General Body meeting at 7 PM at the Ardmore Recreation Center at Ardmore Park on 9222 Ardwick-Ardmore Road in Springdale, Maryland, the ASCA Bellehaven Action Plan Committee will reconvene and discuss the Bellehaven Plaza Project that is forthcoming to the Springdale community. We are inviting and encouraging all residents, community leaders and associations which the project will impact to take part in this meeting.

The meeting will only focus on selecting:

1. A design of the building(s)
2. The type of stores and businesses
3. Name of the plaza
4. Next steps

If you are not able to attend the meeting, please submit your selections (i.e. option design#, type of businesses, and name of the plaza) via email to chair@springdalemaryland.org by Monday, July 19, 2010.

This is the start of moving towards the Community Agreement that was ordered in the Notice of Final Decision by the District Council as a result of the community's advocacy efforts.

We encourage everyone to participate in this process to ensure everyone's input becomes an integral part of the Community Agreement as this development will have an effect on our neighborhood, homes, and families in the years to come. When making your selections of stores and businesses, please keep in mind our neighborhood schools, Charles H. Flowers High School and Ardmore Elementary School, the Woodmore Town Center at Glenarden, the upcoming Landover Gateway Project and choosing businesses that will benefit all families and area residents.

We look forward to seeing you on July 12th!
